Irish football stands up for human rights

31 May 2017

Football and human rights share so many fundamental values. Fairness, first of all. Football is a powerful force for equality, anti-discrimination, diversity and integration. It operates within rules of respect and, as Nelson Mandela said, it can create hope, where there was once only despair.

The Football Association of Ireland and the United Nations Human Rights Office are partnering on the occasion of the World Cup qualifier Republic of Ireland vs. Austria, on 11 June. We call on all the fans to join us and show their commitment to human rights. Here’s what you can do:

  • Take the human rights pledge here and tell your friends why you care
  • Take a selfie with your best football outfit and share along with the #standup4humanrights
  • Participate in our draw by leaving your email address below and win special goodies created for the occasion.

We count on your mobilisation, stand up for human rights !

Enter a draw for a chance to win "Stand Up"/FAI goodies!

We have plenty of goodies to give away to some lucky winners. A draw will take place in June 2017. Enter your e-mail address below for a chance to win. By leaving your e-mail address you'll also receive updates from the UN Human Rights Office.

  • I will respect your rights regardless of who you are. I will uphold your rights even when I disagree with you
  • When anyone’s human rights are denied, everyone's rights are undermined, so I will stand up
  • I will raise my voice. I will take action. I will use my rights to stand up for your rights.
