The City of Geneva reaffirms the importance of the UDHR

5 December 2018

On 5 December, the City Council of Geneva welcomed Ms. Michelle Bachelet and handed her a resolution reaffirming the importance of the UDHR for the City of Geneva. Today, this foundational text remains the symbol of the aspirations of all human beings to freedom, equality and peace.

On behalf of the authorities of the City of Geneva, the capital of peace and human rights, the Mayor of Geneva declared: "We know that to defend the cause of human rights, for all and all around the world, you will spare no effort in reminding States, as well as all actors, of their duty of justice, equity , dignity and solidarity ", recalling that the City of Geneva will always support all actions that will achieve a society more respectful of the rights and freedoms of each and everyone.

  • I will respect your rights regardless of who you are. I will uphold your rights even when I disagree with you
  • When anyone’s human rights are denied, everyone's rights are undermined, so I will stand up
  • I will raise my voice. I will take action. I will use my rights to stand up for your rights.
